Welcome to Free To Be HSP! We are glad you’re here.

Free To Be HSP is life coaching for highly sensitive people; helping them thrive, even when the world overwhelms them.

A highly sensitive person (a.k.a. HSP) is someone with the personality trait called Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS) and is described as having hypersensitivity to external stimuli, a greater depth of cognitive processing, and high emotional reactivity.

The terms SPS and HSP were coined in the mid-1990s by psychologists Elaine Aron and husband Arthur Aron. If you’re visiting this website, chances are, you already know you are an HSP. If you are not sure though, and you want to get a better idea if you might be, I encourage you to visit Dr. Elaine Aron’s site, www.hsperson.com. It contains a wealth of information about this trait as well as a self-test questionnaire that helps you to determine if you are likely an HSP yourself.

According to the Arons and colleagues, people with high SPS comprise about 15–20% of the population and are thought to process sensory data more deeply due to the nature of their central nervous system. High Sensory Processing Sensitivity is a trait, not a disorder.
